Texas is a long long way, from "anything goes". The booklets on the CHL laws is extremely detailed as to what you can and can't do if you looked at the link I previously posted to the PDF file. Some few states allow "open carry" (or used to) and if memory serves it was/is either Arizona or Nevada. In TX you can "only" carry concealed.
And there are still many places in Texas a CHL can not carry a handgun. They made a special case/exception for Six Flags Over Texas, where you can not carry a concealed handgun there (by convoluted wording), and other locations such as hospitals, voting places, government buildings (most of them anyway), schools etc.

Lots of people both inside and outside the USA think Texas is the wild west, it just ain't so.

I would really like to see suppressors, and SBRs/SBSs removed from the NFA list and regulation handed back to the states. I would still keep the NFA requirements for select fire or full auto and DDs though. Also, I would do away with the pre-1986 rule; although I have heard that some NFA collectors are opposed to that because it would reduce the worth of their collections.

I have a Stainless .223 Quick Disconnect from YHM, and there is no way I would shoot it without earpro. While it may eliminate the muzzle blast it obviously does not get rid of the sonic crack. The .22 can I have though it is a different matter. Shooting subsonic .22lr out of my Savage Mark II is a dream. All you hear is the hammer drop and the sound of the round hitting the target....

I have a .308 that is suppressed and use it for hunting. I have noticed that it's depends of your surroundings how it sounds. When there is some snow I could shoot it without earpro but if there is rocky hill or if I'm shooting from shed, bullets sonic crack will hurt my ears.

It's still great to have a suppressor in case the stock dislocates my ear protection or if we are using a dog. Dog's hearing can take a beating if you need to give a mercy shot to a game animal and you are not able to remove the dog far enough. Luckily we can get them without unnecessary fees or paperwork, because they are classified as safety devices.
