    I couldn't find a weekend photos thread so thought I would get one going for today

    British Soldiers train for operations after Afghanistan

    A fresh focus is being put on fighting in metropolitan areas as the British Army prepares for operations beyond Afghanistan. The Field Training Unit (FTU) has launched the Urban Operators Instructors Course to drill troops in skills and tactics for environments far removed from the dusty expanses of Helmand province.

    In the two-week package at Copehill Down, Service personnel turn their hands to the alternative disciplines under the gaze of experienced assessors. 9th August 2012

    TRILATEX is intended to increase interoperability, operational proficiency and readiness between partnering nations. The ships included The guided missile destroyer USS Chafee (DDG 90), the guided missile cruiser USS Port Royal (CG 73), USCGC Galveston Island (WPB 1349), JS Moyoko (DD 175), JS Shirane (DDH 143), ROKS Yulgok Yi I (DDG 992) and ROKS Choi Young (DDH 981)


    A formation of ships from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, and the Republic of Korea Navy maneuver in the Pacific Ocean during a trilateral exercise (TRILATEX).

    Default USS Porter damaged in collision with oil tanker

    Guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) was damaged in a collision with the Japanese owned bulk oil tanker M/V Otowasan in the Strait of Hormuz, Aug., 12. No personnel on either vessel were reported injured. Porter is on a scheduled deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility conducting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts.
