Default Egyptian President Morsi sacks Tantawi

Egypt's president Mohammad Morsi has sacked the Head of Armed Forces and Defense Minister Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi the presidential spokesman announced on Sunday.

Morsi appointed General Abdellatif Sisi to head the military and former judge Mekky as vice-president, the spokesman added.

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi fired his Defense Minister Mohammed Hussein Tantawi and Chief of Staff Sami Anan on Sunday afternoon, Egyptian state TV reported.

He also deployed forces in the Sinai to brace for a possible new wave of terror attacks, reports said.

The dramatic dismissals followed a series of several sackings of top Egyptian intelligence and security officials following last Sunday’s terror attack at the Egypt-Gaza-Israel border in which 16 Egyptian troops were killed.

Tantawi headed the transitional military government in Egypt before Morsi was elected president in June.

I wonder how will the army take this.

Seems sort of a dumb move by Morssi, I don't think that the Egyptian military will take this lying down.

Interesting to see how Morsi is trying to capitalize on the Sinai debacle, should have seen this coming.

If I was a conspiracy theories enthusiast, like our neighbours to the south, this might have raised a few alarms...

You think Morsi himself briefed the Islamist terrorists before they headed out and massacred Egyptian troops?

Does anyone know anything juicy about their replacements (not if they are Jewish)?

It seems like the replacement are part of the old order so ATM it doesn't seems like Morsi is courting a fight with the military.

It seems more like what happened in Turky only faster, chop the head of the armed forces and instate officers that are willing to work for you.
