Morsi Says Top Military Dismissals are in Egypt’s Interests
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi said on Monday that the dismissal of the country's powerful defense minister and a top military general was done in the interests of his country.
On Sunday Morsi signed decrees on the retirement of Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi, the defense minister who headed the military council that ruled Egypt for 17 months after the 2011 ouster of longtime strongman Hosni Mubarak, and the military chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Sami Anan.
“The decrees that I signed on Sunday on the dismissal of Defense Minister Hussein Tantawi and Military Chief of Staff Sami Anan were passed in the interests of Egypt,” Morsi said.
He also said that the reshuffle in the top brass “was not aimed at somebody personally and was not intended to intimidate or weaken any state structure.”
After Morsi signed decrees on the dismissal of Tantawi and Anan, he immediately appointed them as presidential advisors.
Also on Sunday, Morsi cancelled a constitutional declaration aiming to limit presidential powers which the ruling army council issued in June.
The new Egyptian government led by Prime Minister Hesham Qandil was sworn in before President Morsi on August 2.

By Dennis Ross, Monday, August 20, 2:10 AM

In an Op-Ed to the WP, Dennis Ross is very critical about Egypt's violations of the Peace Treaty with Israel and other aspects of Morsi's policy - like women's and Christians' rights.
Ross calls US gov to stop its financial aid to Egypt if the Muslim Brothers don't comply to the Peace Treaty and if they continues to violate human's rights. Egypt needs US' help badly to rise funds for her bankrupted economy.
The best way to establish a true democracy in Egypt is to remove the military, the military has ruled Egypt for decades and have only brought misery and dictatorship to the Egyptians, good job Mr.Morsi,i am sure that lives of Egyptians will get better significantly in the next few years, congratulations to egyptian people![]()
What matters to a very small minority, more than to live among the majority in peace and tolerance and brotherhood, that's exactly what Mr.Morsi made clear during his first speech,in addition, while there is no dictatorship and there rights and equality and social justice, nothing is impossible,Copts themselves are divided and not all think equal.
There is a dictatorship, Morsi is the dictator right now...

A dictator never leaves his seat,in the new Egyptian democracy, there will be presidential and parliamentary elections every four years, also,in a dictatorship, the people never choose its representative democratically in free elections without falsifications etc ...,apart from that,in a dictatorship, there can never be a democratic constitution, which will soon be established in Egypt.
You note the difference ?

State Department spokeswoman Nuland says Iran undeserving of high-level delegations from Egypt, UN; adds Tehran trying to use Non-Aligned Movement summit to manipulate attendees, skirt obligations to UNSC, IAEA.
The United States is against high-level diplomatic visits to Iran by Egyptian and UN officials, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Monday. Nuland was responding to a press inquiry that specifically mentioned a yet unconfirmed visit by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and a confirmed visit by Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy to attend the Non-Aligned Movement meetings towards the end of August.
"Iran is going to try to manipulate this NAM summit and the attendees to advance its own agenda, and to obscure the fact that it is failing to live up to multiple obligations that it has to the UN Security Council, the IAEA, and other international bodies," Nuland said. "So we, frankly, don’t think that Iran is deserving of these high-level presences that are going there."

Earlier this month, Egypt's Islamist President Morsy announced that he would attend the summit, which would mark the first such visit by an Egyptian head of state since 1979 Islamic revolution and Egypt's recognition of Israel. At the 16th summit meeting of NAM leaders, which will be held August 26-31, Iran will take over from Egypt the chairmanship of the organization for the next three years.
