Today the industry and the fans have lost a titan among us. News is scarce but had been said he was in the hospital for some reason. He was still working up to this point, with current Ink work on Before Watchmen : Nite Owl (Pencils by his son Andy)
Rest in Great Peace Joe.
Good article I posted in the CB thread about his work with his son and his school : http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/201..._father_a.html
Oddly his death on this days falls in with two others : http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2012/08/celebrate-the-lives-of-mike-wieringo-mark-gruenwald-by-donating-to-the-hero-initiative

Co-creator of Sergeant Rock, Tor and Ragman, famed for recreating Hawkman, pursuing war comics, founder of the Kubert School, author of Fax from Sarajevo and father to Adam and Andy Kubert, Joe Kubert has passed away, aged 85.
Even now, he had Before Watchmen: Nite Owl on the stands with his own Joe Kubert Presents projects coming out at the end of October from DC Comics,
Richard Bruning, ex of DC Comics, where Joe did much of his best known work, said it best;
Joe Kubert one of the finest men I’ve ever known Rest in peace, Joe

Rest In Peace Joe. You were one of the greats! He was "the look" for years in all the DC War Books. And he was working right up til the end. Most recently with his son Andy, and J. Michael Straczynski writing, on Before Watchmen: Nite Owl.
Prayers and condolences for the family and friends.
RIP Joe
I loved Sgt. Rock comics as a kid.
Rest in peace Mr. Kubert, i love the Sergeant Rock series, been readin' the scans for a few days now
Dang this sucks, but at least he lived doing what he loved up until the very end
Let's see. I remember his Tarzan book for DC and Rima, The Jungle Girl. Batman. Hawkman, (early on Silver Age) before Murphy took over.
This was 3 covers drawn together for a mini-series....I think...

Great stuff C, was really something that he was so active. His school touched a number of artists I enjoy and definitely was a standout in the industry. Andy had to have felt very lucky to work with his Dad like that, love the pic of his workstation in the CB thread.
He also did art for PS the Army Preventive Maintenance monthly...RIP
G.I. Combat, The Haunted Tank, Sgt Rock...

R.I.P.
His death is getting big press for a comic artist. He is on my MSN news page. Here are his Nite Owl inks, over Andys' pencils...

Man that old photo is something, hard to explain the press but he more than deserves it. Suppose he just had that presence and was really a figure to stand behind in the industry.
Here is Darwyn Cooke's (Richard Stark's Parker, DC: The New Frontier) tribute to Joe
