http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/3743...aplace-two.htm from here seems it was a deliberated attack.
"The four St. Johns Baptist Parish deputies involved in the shooting were apparently shot as they were directing traffic outside the Bayou Steel Plant in LaPlace, State Police Sgt. Ann Dusang told CNN.
"They were ambushed," Dusang said. "Two have been killed and two hospitalized."
Earlier, Dusang said a search was under way for the shooters.

RIPThe second shooting occurred after deputies investigating the first attack located a car at the nearby Riverview Trailer Park matching the description of the car involved in the first shooting.
Tregre said that as Nielsen and Jeremy Triche started to question a man in a trailer there, they noticed a second man inside who was fully clothed, but under a blanket. They asked both men to come outside, and the two complied. A third man then jumped out of the trailer with an assault weapon and began firing, Tregre said. Both deputies were killed.
Rest in Peace and our thoughts
