but is our children learning?

Read the rest of the article at the linked page.President Obama on Saturday bashed Congressional Republicans — and by association, the Romney campaign — for failing to prevent teacher layoffs made by cash-strapped state and local governments.
In his weekly address, Mr. Obama noted that education employment has fallen by 300,000 jobs since 2009. He pushed for Congress to help stem the job losses and called the Republican approach to education financing “backwards” and “wrong.”
“The economic plan that almost every Republican in Congress voted for would make the situation even worse,” Mr. Obama said, referring to a budget put forward by Representative. Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin, Mitt Romney’s running mate.
“It would actually cut funding for education — which means fewer kids in Head Start, fewer teachers in our classrooms and fewer college students with access to financial aid — all to pay for a massive new tax cut for millionaires and billionaires.”
Mr. Ryan this year put forward a budget with significant cuts to nondefense discretionary spending, a category that includes federal money for education. The Republican-controlled House passed the budget proposal, but it failed to pass the Democrat-controlled Senate.
We throw more and more money at our schools with worse and worse results. The reforms that do actually work, like charter schools and voucher programs are fought against tooth and nail by Obama and the Dems at the behest of their NEA owners.
Isn't Head Start basically state sponsored day-care anyways?
Well, as a high school student who just graduated, I can tell ya that unless the student did AP or higher, they typically don't care, and neither do their teachers. I've heard a few kids in my advising period call school "free day care." I knew a English teacher who literally only made her kids work because she was required to, and her assignments were so pathetic that a monkey could do them with ease.
It was all kinda sad really. The educational system really is a joke.
Obama seems to love throwing money at problems. Here is a thought how about reforming the schools?
I believe the US stands second in the world on per capita expenditures on students. Funny thing here in my home state of Indiana we have budget surpluses, low taxes, great State Medicaid for the poor and we have a Republican Governor, Mitch Daniels, and Republican statehouse. No teacher layoffs where I live.
we need a good alien visit to set us straight....
