Default Recovery Summer 3: July Unemployment Up In 44 States

    http://news.investors.com/article/62...-44-states.htm

"In another sign of the ongoing jobs recession, fully 44 states saw their unemployment rates climb in July, according to state-level data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

As a result, more than three years after the economic recovery officially started under President Obama, 10 states still have jobless rates of 9% or higher.

Nevada's jobless rate, for example, climbed to 12%, New Jersey's rose to 9.8% and North Carolina's edged up to 9.6%."

    . . .

"These dismal numbers continue a trend of lackluster job growth since Obama took office. Even now, more than three years after the last recession officially ended, the economy is still nearly 4.8 million jobs below the pre-recession peak.

Since the recovery began in June 2009, the economy has never managed to create more than 275,000 jobs in any given month. After the U.S. stopped shedding jobs, the average monthly gain has been just 122,000, which is below what many economists say is needed to keep pace with population growth.

By contrast, in the first three years of the early '80s Reagan recovery, the economy created an average of 273,000 jobs a month."

And the Europeans think Obama would do a better job than Romney on the economy . A third grader with a slide rule would do a better job than Obama on the economy.

well I know that the reason Nevada isn't doing so well is their main income is both gambling and mining. Mining has been on a great decline since the 70's and the tree huggers didn't help matters at all (they still aren't)

Gambling is pretty much a no brainer since the economy sucks so bad there is no fluid assets to go play at casinos, that and ever since Vegas tried to be more "family friendly" that hasn't helped things either....

Actually the Vegas gambling economy is doing pretty good. Nevada is suffering more from the over-heated growth that occurred in the early 2000's, when 10,000 people a month were moving to vegas.

Las Vegas is in a terrible way. You can buy condos on the strip for next to nothing but there is no work there.

when I go up there, most of the time the casinos are light, there are six on the strip that will probably never open, one guy even tried to use his lot as a "rent a construction equipment" park to generate capitol....

Oregon was listed today among the states with the highest unemployment but I don't really think that's totally fair. I mean it's not like we don't have plenty of jobs available. I mean really you can look on the web, in the news paper and even the stores have help wated signs in them, we have job openings. The only problem is we here in Oregon have a shortage of "Dreamers" to fill those jobs. I think we just have an immigration problem...yeah.

Wonder what the rate is between private sector and government jobs.

If unemployment is up because government is cutting down and trimming the fat, maybe its not all doom and gloom.

Growth was at a ~4% annualized rate towards the end of last year, falling to 2% in the first quarter and falling further to 1.5% most recently. I think the trends are pretty clear. The economy is slowing and more people are looking for jobs because they have been laid off, or their spouse was laid off, or their small business went under.
