The JHMCS is in use, often depends on the aircraft and even IF the pilot wants to wear it. Like some of our newest Super Hornets (F/A-18E/F/G) are designed to incorporate with the JHMCS system, BUT: Some pilots opt to wear the older style helmets because they are less fuss and not as bulky (other mostly personal reasons), but for what the JHMCS offers it's pretty cool.

On the down-side the JHMCS helmet requires a bit more care, you can't just toss it around and bump into bulk-heads on a ship with it and expect it to still be 'cool' The older style helmets were just that, simple helmets, the JHMCS is WAY MORE expensive and harsh abuse is very much frowned upon towards it. Also not all aircraft have JHMCS hosting systems, so say an old F/A-18A+ for example wouldn't likely ever receive this newer type of helmet for their aviators to use.
