Default NHS hospital trusts invited to expand abroad

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19328105

High-profile NHS hospitals in England are to be encouraged by the government to set up profit-making branches abroad to help fund services in the UK.
An agency will aim to link hospitals such as Great Ormond Street with foreign governments that want access to British-run health services.
Investment would have to be drawn from hospitals' private UK work, but with profits ploughed back into the NHS.
An interesting plan. In short the NHS would open/help run (private) hospitals abroad, in order to make money for it's services at home. On paper is sounds very clever and it's worked in Dubai so far. What amuses me is just how partisan the issue is.

Labour began the initiative while in government, but shadow health minister Jamie Reed criticised the coalition's plans.

It sound like a ****ing sick joke.(no pun)
i can see where this thread will lead if the normal anti NHS crew get stuck in.

it just now confirms the NHS is a private company to be able to do this? ....i also belive this goes against the British way of doing things.

Quote:world-renowned hospitals like the Royal Marsden, Great Ormond Street and Guy's and St Thomas'.

What ever people say about the NHS these named hospitals are great because the doctors there are from all around the world & paid by the BRITISH TAXPAYER,these places are like a world uni were the skill's of all countrys doctors are done together due to shared skills & knowledge.Invest more in these places rather than out source it.

****ing tory ****s,now we see why the NHS was highlight for openings games

Totally disagree with all of that.

I want to pay less taxes., I want better healthcare in this country, and I want people all around the world to enjoy the best healthcare possible.

A private hospital just lists vacancies. It doesn't mean that the staff from the associated British hospital are going to up sticks.
Our best doctors all fvck off to the private sector anyway, and often to the US or wherever the big money is. I can't see any change in the quality of service in the associated UK trust, other than a positive one.

More money for UK trusts is a good thing. Capitalising (literally) on the excellent service in UK hospitals can only be good. More investment into that NHS Trust, and more people benefiting from good healthcare.... that sounds brilliant to me. My first thought was actualy No1; i.e. getting more money into the Trust that I would have to turn to if things go pete tong.
It alreay works, Moorfields proved it. If you have an eye disease an use Moorfields, you're benefiting from private money pumped into that trust.... by foreigners!

In fairness (in respect to your ealier post) this scheme actually started under Labour, not the Tories.

An offshore business run by government bureaucrats. What could possibly go wrong?

It can't go any more wrong than the privitisation of utilities, rail etc. So far, admittedly on a small scale, it appears to work.
