It's their right, but Gunny sure dont need the money. IF AllState was smart they would hire him to talk smack about geico
Actor R. Lee Ermey, Geico's drill-sergeant-therapist, says he was fired from commercial for criticizing Obamahttp://www.foxnews.com/entertainment...om-commercial/
“Full Metal Jacket” star and Geico's “Therapist Sarge” R. Lee Ermey said the insurance giant fired him from his commercial spot for speaking out against President Barack Obama, according to a report from TMZ.
Ermey played a former drill sergeant in the commercial, where he called a weeping man a “jackwagon” before throwing a box of tissues at the man in a hilarious and popular commercial for Geico.
But in 2010, Ermey slammed the president’s policies, saying his administration was attempting to “impose socialism” on the American people and, in the process, was “destroying the country,” TMZ reports.
Shortly afterward, he apologized for making the comments, but not before Geico decided to give him the boot. He told TMZ that he was fired over the incident, adding “if you’re conservative in this town, you better watch out.”
Ermey, a Marine Corps veteran, has also appeared in films like “Apocalypse Now,” “Mississippi Burning,” and “Leaving Las Vegas,” as well as voicing characters in the “Toy Story” films and “Family Guy.”

I do enjoy watching R Lee, and on the bright side, he has his pistachio commercials.
I like that commercial.
I'd like to see Lee Ermey be a White House press secretary one day. Imagine the faces on the reporters.
That would be great. I'd like to see their faces when he calls them all a bunch of F*ckin' Retards.
Corporate spokespeople can freely exercise their First Amendment rights - but because a business paid them for their image, they got to watch out.
GEICO is in a bind on this one. Don't fire him? And it appears that the company is taking a political stand. Fire him? People say they're taking a stand.
*shrug*
Seeing as they stopped that series of commercials anyways, and went back to the damn gecko...oh well
Erin from ESurance was hotter anyways
Hey, Nike kept Lance.... some companies don't bend to politics or media pressure.
I like the Gunny......he's a funny guy.
If I ran a company and he was hired to be the company sock puppet and he went WAY off message while on the job, I'd fire him too.
It's not personal, it rarely if ever is.......it's business.......it's about money....more specifically the threat/fear of possibly making less money.
But it's worth noting the connection:
GEICO is owned by
Berkshire Hathaway with is owned by
Warren Buffett(shark in sweet and folksy old uncle's clothes) who is in 1%er partnership with
President Obama
Another one here who like's the Gunny....but....if this was a "liberal" hollywood type going on about stuff, a lot of folks here would be telling them to shut up.
Anyway hope he get's another tv show soon.
Thanks to Gunny, "Jackwagon" is now used frequently in my household![]()
