    Do a couple of laps.....

Once bored walk north thru the financial district/WTC

Then walk north to Little Italy and Chinatown for a nosey.

Then walk north to the Village.

Then walk north up through the Garment District.

Stop for a lunchtime feed at John's Pizza Midtown, Theatre District and eat an entire pizza by yourself.

Walk north to Central Park and have a look around.

Turn back south to Times Square to find a bar stool to overwatch the Square, have a few cold beers, and people watch.

You get some exercise to pay in advance for the pizza and beer calories.
Sounds like a plan, although the two guys that will be going with me have been to NYC a bunch of times and dont want to do the tourist stuff. But I'm sure I can talk them into meeting me at Times Square for beers.

As it would be with me. I am a country boy....I have never been to NYC, have no desire to go there, and would not go there if you held a 357 magnum with hollow points to my head.
I am happy for those who like it there, just not my cup of tea. I would prefer Junction, Texas, or even the liberal conclave of Taos, NM for its beauty.

I hate being a tourist and being guided around by people who don't want to do touristy things.
"Statue of Liberty? Times Square? Central Park? Nah, you don't wanna see any of those old boring places. I'm gonna take you to a really good barbecue place that only the locals know about! You won't even know you're in New York, you'll think you're in Texas!"

I've been to many different places, and wherever I go I specifically make a point to do the touristy things, because I am a tourist. Picture in front of the Statue of Liberty, picture in front of the Las Vegas sign, picture holding a malt liquor in the middle of Compton -- it's all the same: I do touristy things because that's what I'm there to do. Sure, whenever I have time, I explore the local culture that doesn't get as much exposure as it should, but I believe in first things first. When I took my family to NYC for the first time earlier this year, the very first thing we did was visit the Statue of Liberty, and the second thing we did was visit Times Square, where we promptly go my daughter her very first "I (heart) NY" shirt. It warmed my heart to see her getting hers much the way I got my first one fifteen years ago. Someday soon I hope to get her her first "I Climbed the Great Wall of China" shirt, just as I did ten years ago. (Hey, it ain't bragging if you done it. )
