Oh Christ another one.
'Women seldom get pregnant as a result of rape and that is a fact,' orthodox Christian party SGP leader Kees van der Staaij told a tv programme on Tuesday.

This seems to be the newest argument in the fruitless anti-abortion campaign. No wonder the fundamentalists shrunk to irrelevance. We have national elections in a few weeks. I really hope this time nobody will agree to a de facto agreement with the orthodox Christian party in exchange for giving in to some of their ideas.
I read on twitter many people believe the remark shouldn't get this much attention, but their influence unfortunately went beyond a few seats they had this term.
EDIT:
On TV right now he doesn't seem to understand how offensive his remark was to many...
Oh Christ another one.
WTF???
Okay, how do these people manage to say this kind of thing? It's been weeks since Todd Akin made that fateful comment and he's still dealing with the backlash, and it's spilling over to Paul Ryan, the convention, etc. All the facts have come out disproving his statements. Yet this political party, with all that time to observe what's happened, still decides to make the same statement as Akin?
I never knew this was a viewpoint actually accepted among orthodox Christians.
Pretty amazing. I hear a lot of ignorance about medical issues, not typically from better educated people. It's so shocking, I almost have to think it's simple ignorance. Hell, I don't know.
Unprotected *** seldom results in pregnancy.
Most women ovulate once every 28 or so days, during which they're fertile for about 48 hours, if you factor in how long sperm can survive in the body - you have a window of opportunity for at most 3-4 days.
3-4 days every 28. Yah great argument there.![]()
There's a christian party in Holland? And they are just as retarded as the rest? WTF?
Not at all.
I'm saying there is no distinguishing fertility rates when it comes to rape vs. consensual ***. Pregnancy is a rare thing in all situations.
If there's no fertility rate difference - then there really is no argument being made by these people use the low fertility rates of rape to advocate against abortion being available.
I think what might be happening is that if you look at the total number of pregnancies, then look at the total number of pregnancies as a result of rape, that number will be low relative to the total. Then spin that as rape results in few pregnancies. It's a real bastardization and twist of data. A similar ploy is used when discussing abortion and breast cancer. Normal pregnancy to term seems to infer a "protective" effect against breast cancer vs women who have never been pregnant to term, however slight that might be. Extremists will spin that to say having an abortion increases your risk of breast cancer. No. All it does is keep you in the "normal" or control group since the baby was not carried to term. It's spin, half truths and very deceptive. I'm against abortion, but tactics like that serve the cause no good.
