    Nice map. Funny to see how the region with some of the most advanced and civilised Empires has degraded so much. The spread of Islam was also much to easy in this region, the Sassanids and Byzantines were exhausted after their wars against each other. The Caliphate also had some brilliant military leaders.

    very cool map for a simple minded putz like me.....some of those empires I have never heard of. The Mongol empire did some serious kick butt, as they had more territory than any of the others it looked like. thanks for sharing.

    So states and borders is a relatively new concept.
