Big Picture: Drill Sergeant
Department of Defense. Department of the Army. Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. U.S. Army Audiovisual Center. (ca. 1974 - 05/15/1984). This film depicts the methods used in basic combat training. It also shows the big role played by the Drill Sergeant, in the system of personalized training created by the U.S. Army.
I think this movie made pre 1971 as I was in then and we had subdued name and US ARMY patches etc on fatigues, all subdued patches. Also by 71 about 90% of our Drill sgts in the army were "non white", i.e. mostly African American, Asian, etc. Think there was one Drill Sgt white. Our 3 story barracks looked something like that in basic. but all concrete and block mostly.
Also the movie shows M14? and we had M16 by '71
Also that drill sgt's marching on what is today considered the wrong side of the formation.
Very interesting I will have to watch this at lunch!
Who is the narrator, I recognize the voice but not his name?
