A team of SAF doctor and medics practising emergency resuscitation drills on a HFHPS in the MSTC.

Medic trainees using the highly-advanced High-fidelity Human Patient Simulators (HFHPS), which is extremely life-like and capable of exhibiting clinical signs such as pulse and even blood spurts arising from deep injuries.

The MSTC will be used for training new medical personnel during courses conducted by SAF Medical Training Institute, such as the Emergency Medical Technician and Specialist courses. It will also be used to train Medical Officers to better operate in military and field medicine disciplines. Existing Operationally Ready National Servicemen who are medics and doctors will also benefit from the MSTC and HFHPS when they return for training.

With the MSTC and HFHPS, training will be more immersive, realistic and interactive for medic trainees.

Medic trainees "treating" casualties in a simulated combat environment in the MSTC.

The MSTC allows medic trainees to learn and apply their skills in a variety of combat scenarios, such as a mass casualty situation in an operational environment.

In the controlled setting of the MSTC, scenarios can be replayed as often as necessary for trainees to improve their teamwork and familiarity with emergency medical protocols.

Post-activity, instructors can playback the positive and negative practices recorded during training to reinforce teaching points for the trainees.

While in the MSTC, trainees are constantly monitored via multiple overhead video cameras which can pan, tilt and zoom to capture their every move. These recordings can be screened "live" in another room for other trainees to observe and learn from the proceedings.

Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) doctors performing a surgery at the Medical Simulation Training Centre (MSTC) on a part-task trainer, an anatomically correct training aid which allows them to hone their surgical skills and collaboration within the surgical team.

Recently launched on 24 Aug, the MSTC is a state-of-the-art facility which can replicate different military medical scenarios such as combat environments; the Emergency Resuscitation Facilities in SAF medical centres; and the operating theatre of a Field Combat Support Hospital.

In addition to the Silver Star, Jason LaCrosse was awarded Germany's highest award for valor, the Gold Cross.

Chief Warrant Officer Jason LaCrosse, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving as an instructor pilot for the 5th Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment, on 2 April 2010 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan.

On that date, his company was stationed in Kunduz, northern Afghanistan, as part of a German reconstruction team when German paratroopers were ambushed by the Taliban about five miles southwest of the city. Within fifteen minutes of being alerted about the wounded, Chief Warrant Officer LaCrosse and three crewmembers took off for the rescue. His helicopter came under heavy fire from machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades as it approached the landing zone. They landed in a field to establish verbal communication with German ground forces, but again came under fire. Despite warnings that the original landing zone was too hot, Chief Warrant Officer LaCrosse decided to attempt another landing.

They loaded the first patient onto the helicopter and took him to Kunduz, then returned to the battle to rescue the second soldier. Again, they encountered heavy fire from the enemy on approach. Under friendly suppressive fire Chief Warrant Officer LaCrosse successfully landed and the crew rescued another of the wounded German soldiers. When they got back to Kunduz they learned that an improvised explosive device had struck a German infantry mobility vehicle and four more German soldiers needed to be rescued. Because of timing issues, Chief Warrant Officer LaCrosse decided to refuel before picking up the four wounded Germans. Then he and two medevac aircraft landed and the four wounded soldiers were evacuated to Kunduz without further incident.
