Default Man dies after eating 28 raw eggs for bet

DEATH by egg. It isn't the most glamourous way to shuffle off this mortal coil but that's how it ended for one man after he ate 28 of them - raw.

The young Tunisian man has reportedly died after winning a bet to eat 28 raw eggs in one go.
Dhaou Fatnassi, 20, from the town of Kairouan, swallowed the eggs after his friends challenged him to do so for an undisclosed sum of money.
The young man then experienced stomach pains and was taken to hospital but was por.nounced dead on arrival, Shems FM reported.

Probably Salmonella. Usually in the developed world, that isn't too much of a problem anymore (you still should avoid undercooked poultry), so eating some batter/dough or a couple raw egg yolks shouldn't be an issue.
However, downing that many, in a country that probably doesn't have as strict a sanitation system, increases the risk significantly.

I would not eat 50 raw eggs in any country for any amount of money.

Would be important to know how quickly he died after eating the eggs, with that being said the report creates the impression it happened rather quickly.

Shitty way to go, I guess. Though my pity for that guy is limited.

It doesn't say how long it took, but disease-based food poisoning (including that stemming from Salmonella) can have an onset within hours.

True. Just saying that the two factors combined makes it go from "there's a chance you may get sick" to "you will get sick and it will be painful".

This. The amount of slightly base egg white will probably momentarily raise the pH in the stomach enough for non-acidophile microbes or protozoan to slip through. To die so fast, suggests exotoxins.
