SYDNEY — Australia and China are planning joint military exercises that may also include the United States as the nations work to ensure stability in the region, Canberra’s defense chief said Dec. 27.
Gen. David Hurley told The Australian newspaper that the war games were “on the short-term horizon.”
“We’re working our way towards that,” he said.
Context anyone, please.... I need to read more on this somewhat astonishing development.
Nothing astonishing going on there, they have been dancing around the subject for a while now.
This so called War game with china has been going on and off for a few years.
It will just be some Boats and Infantry about 200,000 Chines Vs 10,000 Australians. With No Sub's
That is Until the USA turn Up with 2 or 3 aircraft carriers.
I wonder if the PLA would deploy the 052C destroyer from the SCS bases in Hanian Island....

I am not worried about the Australian troops capability to defend Australia at all, Nor the chines!
I am more worried about the Australian Politicians, they could give up before the First shot is Fired. Green Policy to Invasion, let's hold hands and Sing "Com by yea!"
If the bloody Greens were in charge sure. But I don't think the LNP or ALP would stand idly by and let our country be invaded.
War games or full scale intelligence gathering of each others capabilities?
Does anyone what the Australian procedure is for these types of exercises with a non allied nation with regards to what can be demonstrated and what is kept classified? Or more to the point, is there such a thing?
You can probably bank on a bog stock low level ops flogging of the poor old persecuted Musorians. Actual events on the ground wouldn't really matter, probably lots of notional events happening to pad the exercise out, the important bit would be the ability for the higher up to be able to interact effectively.
