A&E doctors are calling for a ban on long pointed kitchen knives to reduce deaths from stabbing.
A team from West Middlesex University Hospital said violent crime is on the increase - and kitchen knives are used in as many as half of all stabbings.
They argued many assaults are committed impulsively, prompted by alcohol and drugs, and a kitchen knife often makes an all too available weapon.

Oh boy didnt notice, it just popped on my facebook newsfeed. Please delete.
It's still bloody stupid, I'm surprised the last Labour government didn't do it.
How can you cut a juicy steak with an assault blade under 2 inches? : |
Never heard of this unusual ban request before but it got me thinking, how often do I really use the pointy end of the knife? They could very well make a rounded end to the blade and it wouldn't hinder it's everyday use... Of course unless the food is moving on the plate and you have to immobilize it, but then you could use the fork to stab it. Oh, now the fork is a potentially deadly weapon.
