Not even sure what they mean with "sent" in the article.
Yes, some elderly choose to move to foreign countries after retirement because its cheaper or they like the climate. How is that new?

I also see this as rather harmful for Germany because it means that these people spend their money outside of Germany.

Some fortunate children with a big wallet could SEND their parents off to a place where they may enjoy their days overseas. I get that the article is trying to portray Europeans as hating their elderly and trying to pawn them off as tourists to other unsuspected countries

Maybe Germany has a public system where you pay in as a lottery to hopefully send your nagging grandmother off to a foreign land?

This message somehow got into the Czech media, but it is rather the lack of other topics. According to figures from the article was about ten thousand people, so the impact on the economy of Germany is not measurable, and in general the article is a piece of poor journalism.

Researchers found an Estimated 7146 German pensioners living in retirement homes in Hungary in the 2011th More than 3,000 had been sent to homes in the Czech Republic, and there were more Than 600 in Slovakia. Also there are unknown numbers in Spain, Greece and Ukraine. Thailand and the Philippines are attracting ook Increasing numbers.
No numbers from Spain and Greece? Why?

    update:
This thread made me read an article in one the most popular Czech web newspaper and I found that the editor just translated and jumble sentences from the original Guardian article. I do not understand how anyone can get money for such work.

What happens in Germany stays in Florida. I've met more German tourist in the desert than I've met in Florida. Wait, the term tourists is relative.

The article was more about those who seeks medical care, which is too expensive to them. But what confuse me more is why guardian care about german old man. Why not some german media?

And why not, in the Philippines for example surgeries are far cheaper than in the west, yet most specialist did their studies and early stint in American or European hospitals. Even the hospitals here can compete in terms of care and operations in the west.

I just dont see any issues at all. I would rather see elderlys walking around over here and wandering the beaches or the cities with someon to care for them rather than get stuck in a home for the aged, now thats no way to treat grandpa.
