I don't know. However, the Army, did, at one time, issue it in a color I can only describe as SGM Aneurysm Black. I can still remember the first time I wore it... imagine my surprise when the army actually issued a piece of cold weather kit that functioned.... other than mickey mouse boots. No, only desert. The black fleece was part of ECWCS and constructed of Polartec 300, whereas that desert MARPAT fleece is made of their Windpro fabric. The black fleece was also issued in coyote for a time.
That was my reaction as well...until some months later when some idiot in my chain of command decided we were to wear them UNDER the DCU tops. Like wearing a winter coat under a tshirt. Yes, seriously.

Our chain of command made us do the same thing during the winter. Doesn't matter how cold it is, your outer garment MUST be camouflage!
Does anyone use field jacket liners anymore? Those were the bees knees.
They don't get issued, but you can still find 'em easy in the surplus shops out in town. And yes, they're incredible.
Do you guys use fleece as a part of your uniform? For us it was banned due to the flammability/effect of fleece when burning=/

the brit army moved from dpm fleece to green fleece as "officers" seemed to thinkDPM fleece it had the same IRR properies as a combat jacket and therefore wore it as such....
it did not
then we moved to green only fleeces (one time issue at depot).
then we moved to a desert/green reversible issue thing that was issued on deployment.
now i think we will be moving onto a fleece/pertex hybrid (tantalus) much like the buffalo as:
1. it works
2. blokes wont sell it to airsofters on ebay if it works.
3. it was SF issue first.
4. it looks cool and isnt an extortionately expensive buffalo or and expensive rip off.

The Marines issue two different types of fleece. One is a standard desert brown commonly called a brown bear jacket and the other is a desert MARPAT patterned fleece that many call a "cheetah" jacket due to the spots on it. I wear the latter on a regular basis, it is light but warm!
Is that the 'smoking jacket?' I got issued one though next to all the cool Patagonia crap I got issued I never used it.
Exactly. It was perfect for cold weather when used UNDER your woodland BDU top. Dudes even had extra buttons or zippers added. This way you would appear to have on no snivel gear. You know, the fine line between hard-ass & dumb-ass
The best was being TDY with no civies or lost bags & trying to pull off "who, me in the army?" look with this:

The army sweater, the sleep shirt, field jacket liner and wet weather top were cold weather essentials. We weren't allowed to wear the field jacket in the field, but you could use the parka.
