Driving 100Kmph+ in that traffic is indeed crazy. Deep down inside some part of me wanted to see that guy's face planted firmly in asphalt.
Only a question of time before he becomes an organ donor.
Some people just ask for it..
He's gonna be dead soon..... Die young, staaaaaayyyy priitaaaayyyyy
This sort of thing is everday here in Brazil (where this video comes from) - not surprisingly bikers get creamed by the hundreds. In the rush hour in Rio you got bikes cutting you up both sides all the time. Not that the car drivers are any better, as they are always changing lanes, using the hard shoulder as an extra lanes without indicating. Driving with your hazard lights on apparently means you can do anything you like! I saw a guy do this a couple of months back, passed me but got clipped by a car a couple ahead of me, which lobbed him off and a bus ran over his head. Some of the moto boys in the city, trim thier handle bars to go through smaller gaps. Another time I saw a guy cutting the lanes, but he obviously never realised his girfriend's arse was wider than the bike, and she got hauled off between two moving cars. The carnage on the roads is so hight here you can expect to see two or three fatals a week (especially on the BR101). Usually the bodies (or parts thereof) get laid at the side of the road waiting for the body wagon, and everyone stops or slows down to take pictures.
^----- Thanks for the info. I thought that might be Portuguese. Dead motorcyclists lying around must make for an interestingly casual perspective on mortality.
Made it to 7:15 before I gave out.
It'll be a short life, but a merry one.
Very complex environment to ride in.
Lots of independent moving parts to concurrently observe, orient, decide, and act towards.
And while I am a strong believer that velocity/energy can be your friend on a motorbike in accident avoidance on a motorcycle under certain circumstances........it runs contrary in this case.
With high velocity lane splitting you have to make some very bold and dangerous assumptions every second and you have to be right every time.
I've got a fair bit of track time.......but comparing racing on a track to high speed lane splitting is like comparing juggling 3 balls on solid flat ground with juggling 5 chainsaws standing on a wobbly chair in a room full of rabid baboons.
Perfection in riding is a goal, not a standard that can be maintained indefinitely.
That sounds ugly. I used to ride my bike like this (albeit a little slower) and I learnt my lesson the hard way when I drove into the guard rail to avoid a swerving vehicle. Fortunately I walked off with a little less skin and without any broken bones and impaled organs.
