China's New Stealth Frigate

Think this is the first in a series of massive military tech upgrades for China. And to think, it's all because of a couple of islands Well, maybe more than just that!

"These new Chinese stealth frigates will be tasked with various missions but, principally, work in the anti-submarine and escort roles. Named ‘Jiangdao', the lead ship was launched on 23 May 2012. Since then, nine more Type 056 frigates have also been launched, out of 20 ultimately expected to equip the People's Liberation Army."

Small budget ships for maritime patrol, looks comparable in capability to the various corvettes operated by Southeast Asian navies. I wonder if it comes with adequate ASW capabilities.

The Pattani class corvettes for the Royal Thai Navy from which the 056 was developed were built in the early 2000s

Dude...the inset is a very old type 051 destroyer,106 xi'an,which belongs to the first generation destroyer built for Chinese navy in 1960s,its been moored at Wuhan port in Yangtze River since 2007.

The SIGMA concept is from the late 90's I believe. But who knows, maybe the roles in the world have already been reversed.
