Default Anti-government extremist groups reach record levels, say experts

(CNN) -- The number of American "patriot" extremist groups has reached a record level, according to a new study, and experts are warning of a wave of anti-government violence.

A report released Tuesday by the Southern Poverty Law Center counted 1,360 "patriot" extremist groups in 2012 -- up by 7% from 2011. The study defines patriot groups as anti-government militias driven by their fear that authorities will strip them of their guns and liberties.

"They believe the Constitution is being raped. With hate groups, things are going to get worse because they feel like they're in battle," said David Gletty a former FBI informant who spent time undercover with various militia and extremist groups. "It's not surprising with their hatred of President (Barack) Obama that there are even more hate groups out there."

The study said California has the most patriot extremist groups, with 81.

Dissenters must be quashed, especially when "experts are warning of a wave of anti-government violence."

While you're at it, arrest and torture any remaining Occupy Wallstreet protesters. Annoying ****ers. Any citizen reckless enough to exercise their constitutional rights should be stopped

    Here here for experts.

Wow. I get the direction of the CNN article and the data the SPLC used but I know some will be not amused by the co-mingling of the words "patriot" and "extremist" being used together ala. "..extremism in the defense of Liberty is no vice." Then again others might say heck yea I am an extreme patriot, aren't you?

I believe all positions are becoming more extreme. I believe if one were to define "extreme" and "Progressive" you would see the numbers of such groups growing and not shrinking.

The middle is being asked to take a stand (whether it really matters or not is another topic) and the way issues are framed the answers will as a result yield more extremes than in the past. Few ask how the middle is feeling/thinking/doing etc. as that demographic is vastly shrinking. One might also say the same for wealth accumulation at the very top and bottom of the extremes with an increasing non-existant middle-class but that is for another topic.

More extremist groups - yep - no doubt at all. What, you weren't amazed at the results were you?

All us 'bitter clingers' are 'extremists', doncha know. Almost any group that speaks out against government abuses, judicial activism, militant gay or feminist activism, Islamists, illegal immigration or any other liberal sacred cows are labeled as 'hate groups' by the SPLC.

"Hope and Change" is about as retarded as "Brotherhood and Unity". Fancy both terms were derived by Marxists.

I would love a reference to the Marxist roots of Hope and Change and I believe Brotherhood and Unity was in common use in Communist Yugoslavia and by Communists in Turkey but its origins most likely predate Marxism and you can find both Unity and Brotherhood used before or after each other in various Christian and Islamic references.

My reference was of that most recently used in the former Yugoslavia "Bratstvo i Jedinstvo". Hope and Change as it has been used by an administration influenced by the Left/Marxist/Black Nationalism.

Back in the 90's I had my clearance reviewed because I belonged to a group that made it onto the 'militia' watch list.

It was a private gun & fishing club back home where old farts drank beer & swap lies while they fish in the stocked pond. I joined because they have a nice range and it was nice to help support a place my dad enjoys. There was about as much political activism going on there as there is your local bar.

Perspective: it's Mark Potok... That-sh*t stirrer makes his living by painting pretty much everybody who isn't in line with his social justice politics as a hate group. You can take him more seriously when a group like Stormfront, who actually is a hate group, isn't right next to a group like the Family Research Council, whom I disagree with but whose only real "crime" is advocating "family values" in his "intelligence" (oxymoron) reports.

This "right-wing extremism" siren song has been published every spring since Obama was elected. F*ck him.

An administration primarily influenced by rich well positioned white people by any indication. I really am struggling to ID any Marxist ideals at all in the Obama administration and I for one is most disappointed that Obama was not flanked by S1W at his swearing in.

Overtly Marxist, not really, but a related movement called Progressivism? Absolutely.

Progressivism is the consequence of industrialisation and is not necessarily left wing although the mantle at present has been assumed by the more liberal elements though its often been associated with socially equitable Protestant groups in the past.
