miller, did you rewire that h250/u handset? if so do you have any helpful advice or maybe a wiring diagram on how you did it?

Yes I rewired the handset, If I remembered correctly I just measured the wires (mic and speaker) and wired them to a 3,5mm plug.

@Miller: My handset has like 7 or 8 diffrent wired, you measured with a multimeter? I gave trial and error a go and it got me nowhere, I guess its possible I have a bum handset. my knowledge of electronics borders on nonexistent, if I could lay my hands on a multimeter what should I look for to find the correct pairings?
