That looks like a really fun environment to play in. What I mean by that is that you've just got a bunch of guys with some camos, a rifle and ammo. Don't really see any gear whores posing for the camera. Looking at that all I'd need to buy is a decent rifle and some safety glasses.

I guess it's inevitable that everyone continuously upgrades their gear. I forget who said it here, but "You're never done!" seems very true.

Because their basic stuff is plenty, decent, easy to get everywhere and most airsoft guns are AR variations. And last but not least US forces have biggest pop-cultural promotional machine behind them in both Hollywood, games market and actual military divisions providing tons of pictures.

Dunno, depends on region and law I guess. Usually locals can get their army uniforms cheaply if they try, and if its not prohibited by law (as in Ireland and several other countries). Here in Poland usually it goes like (uniform-wise): US,Polish,Flecktarn, DPM's (both Dutch and British) and all the rest then - some Russian, some French too.
Second thing is equipment - webbing, fleeces, goretex, bashas and stuff. US dominate in most surplus, ebay and dedicated shops. There was an boom on the tactical nylon market last few years, and it is dominated by US products. Reenactors have bit diffrent approach - but its a separate matter to discuss.
Third - replicas availability, as I mentioned - most specialized, exotic replicas are very pricy (such as good L85, or SLR/FAL). Even decent, modern AK's require some investments that exceed price of real piece.
Fourth - Mentality, most sunday militarists follow some "High Speed" forces/units image, I've never seen anyone replicating soldiers from logistics company.
If and when I start airsoft my first kit will be British. I already have a Soldier 95 combat jacket, gortex trousers (not official issue, they're made by a company called Seyntex) and boots.
