    Default Cold weather weapons maintainence

This question is aimed at you guys in Scnadanavia, Canada, Russia, Iceland, etc..

How do you keep your weapons from freezing in extremely cold weather?
I have heard that the Russians use a derivative of sunflower oil that virtually refuses to freeze. How does your maintaince procedure differ from standard weapons maintainece for average temperate weather? Finally, where can I get whatever type of freeze proof lubricants you guys use?

    THANKS!

We don’t use any oil or greas in the weapon during the winter and always keep your weapon dry and clean but the most important thing is
Never take you weapon with you in a warm tent or in a house if you do that the weapon gone get wet and when you take it out again it gone freeze and stop working

the USMC M16 handbook tells me that CLP (cleaner, lubricant and preservative) is still used until a temperature of around -35 degrees fahrenheit is reached, at lower temperatures you switch to LAW (lubricating oil, arctic weapons).

How does it differ? It doesn't. In cold weather you just try to avoid big changes in temperature (i.e. in the winter, taking the gun from outside to a warm tent/house). The gun will "sweat" moisture if you do that, and when you go outside again, that moisture will naturally freeze, possibly causing malfunctions.

The freeze proof lubricant we use is...no lubricant
Field maintenance is basically taking the gun apart, cleaning the bolt, barrel and weapon in general, then oiling it, and finally drying it. Takes a few mins.

Right, so we learned to do when i was in the army, and the coldest t° we had in Germany where i stood for four years was about -15°C, -20°C maximum.

something I learnt the hard way was that the old trick to thread a condom over your muzle isn't a good idea when temps are crawling down to -20°C -30 °C. 'Cause of all the moist which is trapped inside your barrel. and your comdom will freeze..

Graphite, same thing you use in locks during winter, can be used as a lubricant.

Mostly though, just keeping the weapon dry will work well enough.

The main thing is that moisture in the working parts can freeze and make the weapon difficult to ****. In which case you can periodically move the action to make sure it still moves freely.

Never had a problem with the actual hammer and firing pin freezing.
