    Default ICS M4

im thinking of getting my first AEG. ive been looking at this ICS M4 and it looks really solid and i like how the forward assist can clear jams and its actually functional and it breaks down like a real M-16/M4 read this review and comment away. (it shows the breakdown and forward assist)

Great replica, very very good in my opinion. Pity it's tappet plate breaks usually after some 500 shots, but once you replace it - the gun is flawless.

mind explaining what a tappet plate is? remember im new to this

The tappet plate is the part linking the air nozzle to the gears in the mechbox. It moves the air nozzle back and forth in sink with the gears so a BB can load and be pushed into the barrel when the piston realeases.

When it breaks the air nozzle doesn't move and BB's are not pushed into the barrel. Air will just blow out the bottom of the hop-up unit intead of pushing the BB out the barrel.

I had my ICS SW5A4 for 2-1/2 years before the tappet plate broke on it. Sometimes you just get a lemon. Fortunately a new ICS tappet plate only costs about $15.

    Sorry to get so technical.

I love my ICS. I've had about 3000+ rounds through it and NO troubles. I havn't had any trouble with my tappet yet. (Just watch, tonight when I go shoot, its going to break. I jinx'd myself... Damn.)

    I bought mine on e-bay for 300.00.

I really like the split gear box. You can have a "upgraded" Upper Mech. Box for outdoor games and a stock Upper Mech. Box for CQB. It takes about 10sec. to swap them out.

Also the working forward assist is a nice feature for decompressing the spring after your done firing the weapon.

    Cool My Olympic Arms M4

My Olympic Arms M4 has performed great! I've had about over 15,000 rounds through it. It works flawlessly. I have maintained it with extreme care. However, on the field it gets its beatings (don't worry, I'm sure not to abuse it).

Since we are 'on subject', will it hurt my weapon in ANY way to upgrade it to an M120 spring to get 375 fps? I will be using 25gram bbs then. So it will scale it down. I just want to know if it posses ANY possible threat to the well being of my weapon. I've heard of upgrades causing problems with ICS M4s. However, on Airsplat.com, they claim that you do not need any other upgrades to use an M120 spring.

I am also replacing the hop-up to ensure it's in mint condition, because I have had quite a few rounds through it. However, it's not expensive maintenance.

    Any help will be appreciated!

By the way, I HIGHLY recommend this airsoft weapon. It is durable, reliable, accurate, realistic, beautiful. Anything and Everything you'd ask for (that is my oppinion).

Aight, you M4-M16 family fans take care (can't say armalite anymore, because there is a company armalite now
    )

long time lurker, first time poster here, to answer the above:

anytime you upgrade, your putting increased strain on everything in your gearbox. plopping an M120 in your upper mechbox will lessen the life of everythign else. knowing that, an m120 should leave you will plenty of life in a brand new gun.

CAUTION: FOLLOWING INFO MAY BE OUTDATED

Now when I had an ICS M4 not to long ago, the TUBRO2000 motor it came with had a rickity time pulling a 120, the new ones have TURBO3000 in them now though, and thats a whole 1000 better so maybe that problem no longer exists, if yours is an older gun be prepared to maybe pick up a diffrent motor.

What battery did you have in that gun with the TURBO2000 motor?

9.6 3300MAH something or other, still use that battery in my socom16 today so I know it wasnt the batt.

of course, its always the chance I had a lemon motor from ICS.

my advice is unless you really want the novelty of the two peice gearbox (and the superior hopup unit) just stick with a new version Classic Army.

no no, what I meant was that ICS M4 HOPUP (which is inter-replaceable with TM either AUG or G36; my memory fails me) is supiour in design to the systema replacment for the stock Marui M16 style hopup that CA G&G and G&P all copy.

as for my ICS being a lemon, maybe so maybe not, but like I said unless the you have some specific need for the two peice gearbox, like tranistioning between woodland to cqb every other game, then stick with whats tried and true (reffering to a one piece gearbox shell), in airsoft, like everywhere else K.I.S.S. applies.
