Same could be said about Douglas E. Nash's book, Victory Was Beyond Their Grasp. He got his hands on almost the entire unit history of the Volks-Grenadier Fusilier Company 272 by chance which was discovered by chance by another person (make that 2 other people actually). [If any of that made any sense]
- I Witnessed the End of the Ancient World, by Alexandre Adler. A 2002 book offering an analysis of the post-9/11 world. It's interesting, 10 years after he wrote that book, how accurate some of his analysis and predictions were.
I've read all the Flashman books, plus the author's memoirs of WWII, "Quartered Safe Out Here", about his experiences with The Border Regiment in Burma.
How is his memoir?
Currently reading "Helmet for my Pillow" by Marine Robert Leckie about his WWII experiences in the South Pacific, Guadalcanal and Peleliu. He was portrayed in HBO's "the Pacific" series/DVD set. Leckies was a professional writer, and the book was first published in 1957 when I was 10 years old, and thus is "dated" by lack of any curse words or things that would be seen in modern day books, as things were much different in 1957, no 4 letter words in books, etc. But it was written barely oveer 10 years after wars end. Leckie saw much combat, extreme combat. He had started writing at age 16, so he was a good writer from a young age.
3 days ago finished reading American Strategy in Vietnam, a Critical Anaysis by Col. Harry G. Summers, Jr. (deceased), which was good if you want to see the "big picture" in the Vietnam war, as in Clausewitz theory etc.
The World Atlas of Whisky, guess it might come in handy one day
