There are quite a few pics on this thread alone with Irish soldiers equipped with the UGL on their AUG's.

I never knew we had any one of Asian ethnicity as an officer in the PDF (outside of the medical side of things).

On operations it is. In line with the use of UGL's in other nations army's.

    Default 104 Battalion UNIFIL.

Some footage from the 104 Battalion who deployed to Lebanon in Jun/Jul this year as the first Irish unit to return there since 2006. This video gives you an insight to the daily work of the irish troops and also shows the official handover from the French troops to the Irish troops of the forward observation posts which are on the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel. 47 members of the Irish Defence Forces have lost their lives in the service of peace in Lebanon.

Me, (again) kitted out for patrol with No 1 Patrol, along the border
in 1977 from Finner Camp, Ballyshannon, County Donegal
at this stage I was a Regimental Signaler hence the folder.

Armed with a F.N. 7.62 SLR, 40 Rounds, (2 Mags, one on the weapon one spare).
58 Pattern web belt & 2 pouches, Flack Jacket & steel helmet.
To the rear Poncho in its 58 Pattern carrier.

The keen eyed might spot the light Khaki shirt and brown tie which was part of the Irish combat dress of the day, and impossible to keep clean.

Never could get a long enough pair of combat pants, hence the grey socks showing above the boot tops.

    * Paddy left after 3 years, I met up with him many years later he was working the gates as a Dublin Dock Police Officer.

I have a question regarding Irish Defense Force: What's the language they used in the military? Do they use Gaeilge or English?

They use Irish language commands when giving orders, but, training starts with the use of English words then the Irish form is introduced, weapons courses and most other instruction is in English, there are some Irish speaking programs ran to raise the awareness of the Irish language and traditionally the 1st Bn based on the West Coast is an Irish speaking battalion, as many of their recruits came from the large Galway Gaeltacht (sp?) Irish speaking area.
