Saab Signs Contract with Ireland for RBS 70 Upgrade (Source: Saab AB; issued June 11, 2014)
Defence and security company Saab has signed a contract with the Irish Defence Forces to provide upgrades to Ireland’s RBS 70 air defence missile systems. The order has a value of approximately SEK 40 million and includes deliveries of improved firing units, new simulators, night vision equipment and associated weapons support.
Ireland has requested updates to its RBS 70 systems. This recently-signed contract provides for new operator training simulators, upgraded fire units to support the BORC night-capable sight and the latest Bolide missile, new external power supplies plus a four-year support agreement. The Irish order underlines the continuous enhancement of RBS 70 system capabilities.
From facebookHuge congratulations are deserved for Sergeant Gallagher and Corporal McKenna representing the Irish Defence Forces, who took Silver in the International category and 21st overall at the 14th U.S Army International Sniper Competition in Fort Benning, Georgia following nine challenging events, conducted over four arduous days in the humidity of the Deep South marsh and bush lands.
The competition was won by the elite Light Infantry Unit, 10th Mountain Division while the International Competition was won by the British Army 1 Rifles. The Irish team scored higher than the German and Danish Sniper Schools who finished 3rd and 4th respectively, the Republic of Korea teams and fourteen U.S. domestic teams. Stiff competition was provided by two separate Delta Force Teams, two U.S Marine Corps teams and several Ranger and Airborne units.
