Whats new in the Defence forces apart from those rather nice helos ? Any new gear coming in ?
bit's and pieces, we're still in the midst of a re-equipping, they are ordering 2 more AW139's, we are getting 15 more Mowags, with a mix of 30mm armed (some influential people want them with the optional TOW missile attached) and RWS versions, new ships for the navy including maybe a "blue-green" one capable of transporting vehicles and personel, similar to a baby amphib I guess, then smaller stuff, a new PLCS, new battle vest ect, new body armour and helmet ect, other stuff is still up in the air, an LTAV, maybe more mowags with 105mm+ armament ect...exciting times in the DF's though

Excellent news ! Had the Department of Finance finally opened its purse to the cries of the defence forces ? - or are they like ours - only motivated by shame and the ballot box ?

No,not really when you consider that the baps in most units are 40 years old and alot are starting to develop cracks in the slides due to wear and tear!Dont fancy having one blow up in my face!
Good news on the Gpmgs though with regard to the rails on the top covers as the majority of the ones at home dont have the brackets fitted to take the midi kite.

Soldiers from an Irish mechanized company just before they embark on an operation with Finns and Swedes - today's task was to set up VCPs and stop any suspicious vehicles on their way to Pristina and search for illegal weapons, ammunition and/or explosives. Two handguns were found (one of them).

Not much, but it's something I guess.
