    Mirage 3 Recon

    Pilatus Porter PC-6
The Swiss Air Force utilizes the Pilatus Porter PC-6 as a
light transport category aircraft. Its robust design and
short-field take-off and landing capability allows it to operate
in nearly every region. The Air Force procured 6 Turbo Porters
in 1976, and at the same time the already operated
    piston-engined Porters underwent modifications whereby
the new high performance turbo-propeller turbines were
    installed (PC-6 retrofit).
Today the Porter serves mainly as a transport aircraft
for personnel and equipment and is further utilized in
scouting operations and in the dropping of parabats.
The Porter also aids in combating forest fires
with the aid of a built-in water tank. In the event of a war these
    Porters
will be incorporated into a utility aircraft squadron.

The FLORAKO System entered operational service on Feb. 2, 2004, after
successfully completing final tests and operating in parallel alongside the
old FLORIDA air defense system. FLORAKO is an all-new system comprising Master surveillance radars, a data and communication system, a new air picture generation and airspace management system, and new control Air Command and Control Center.
This capability gives the Swiss air forces and Skyguide, the service
providers responsible for military air safety, a modern system for monitoring airspace to meet increased civil and military air navigation requirements.

    Panzer 87 (Leo 2A4)

The Pz 87 Leopard 2 differs from its German counterpart in
having a slightly altered turret rear, with a slope at the rear
left side, and an additional stowage box for the camouflage
net on the right turret rear. On the left turret rear is a
box containing the external head-set connection for
the crew's intercomm. Swiss-made WF Bern 7.5 mm
MG 87 machine guns are installed, one mounted
co-axially to the main gun, and one fitted to the
    loader's station on a Swiss-built MG mount for air-defense.
AN/VCR 12 radios of US design, produced under license, are installed.
On the left and right sides of the turret, next to the Nebelwerfer 87
smoke mortars, are two tubular cases for interim storage of hot exchanged machine guns barrels.
Three grousers are stowed on the
left turret side and a further seven on the right, which with
the 18 carried on the bow brings the total to 28 grousers for
use on soft or snowy ground instead of the same number of
rubber track pads. Switzerland introduced the extra
noise-reducing exhaust mufflers, attached to the
vehicle's rear, baird passive night periscope, digita
l fire control computer, and improved NBC protection.
