I'm registered for a multi-gun competition in mid-June. I'll be using a No.4 Enfield for the military bolt action event. For the battle rifle event, I'll be using my Israeli FAL, and for the action shoot I'm debating between the FAL, the AK-74 and my M4-style, and for the pistol, debating between my CZ-75, my 1911A1, and my Glock 40 (leaning towards the Glock, as that's what I've trained the most with), and for the "sniper" event, trying to decide between my Winchester Model 70 varmint Special in .22-250 and my H-BAR AR in 5.56/.223.
Should I use that Israeli FAL, or just ship it to you, and use my 1922 Turkish Mauser instead?
I think you know what I would say. You did a very beautiful job on your Israeli FAL. I am not sure which one that I would use. Some range time would clear that up.
Yeah, my main concern is that those FALs, with brand new receivers, need to be broken in, and I don't know if that will happen by the time of the event.
In the action shoot, large bore rifles have a 30 second handicap. I'm not sure I want to risk using a rifle that may not function perfectly in a timed event like that, and that is the reason i'm considering an AR or AK for that event. I have more experience with those rifles (esp. the AR, of course), and that might be worth the 30 seconds, especially if a mag change is necessary.
I really like the feel and handling of the Israeli FAL, as it has a shorter buttstock, which fits my shorter than average arms perfectly.
gys. should i switch from the CTR to a A2 stcok?

Thanks, JVeld. Of course, your collection is the envy of just about everyone here! I hear ya about wanting to play with one's own guns (huh, huh...). The only things I really missed when I was overseas were my guns and Oregon's outdoors.
Your call, BJ. My personal preference is for A2-type stocks for full-length uppers, but that's just me. I don't have to wear body armor and lots of shyt that might make adjustments necessary. I like collapsable stocks for the shorter carbines.
I worry that that would be my problem, if an intruder were to ever come in my place at night.
"Ooooohh...I finally get to use one of my guns! Damn, I can't decide which one would be cooler to shoot a criminal with! Let's see...the Remington 870 with flachette rounds, or the Glock 45 with silvertips? Wait...I could use the AK and see what the rounds does to flesh at close range, or then again there's my .44 magnum....by the time I made a decision, it would be too late.
buy yourself a decent Belgian FAL, also buy a SAFN-49, I used one last week and I was astonished by it's accuracy, never seen anything like it. Whatever you choose, go with the FAL
I love my FN-49. Chambered in .30-06. Luxembourg contract. Awesome rifle.
