Yeah i wasn't overly thrilled about the stainless, but having it here it looks pretty good, and its a competition gun not a tactical one, so i'm not to worried.

Maybe one day in the future if i get bored i will get my mate to gun coat it - but thats doubtful at this stage

None of my current handguns are stainless, but I don't mind them. I've owned a Smith and Wesson 686 and a stainless Ruger Security Six in the past, and they were fine.

I saw a stainless Kimber 1911A1 in a store recently, and was very tempted to inquire about a lay-away plan, then maturity/responsibility got the best of me.

Nice SKSs and AWESOME PHOTOGRAPHY, Sergey!!!

Like this Paratrooper SKS, no aftermarket stock or cheap scope for it. It's perfect the way it is.

    is that a Norinco SKS?

i have about a dozen of them in my safe at the moment still in grease and unfired.

    nice little cheap rifles

My first SKS was a Norinco, and it was an excellent rifle. A lot of people bad-mouth them due to the fact that the quality of some are hit/miss, but the one I had was great. Wish I hadn't sold it.

Yes, It's Chinese Paratrooper model. Very light, fells like only a couple pounds, very small and well balanced. Almost gives an impression of a toy version of SKS.
At one point they were cheap, but not so much anymore. Take a look at Gunbroker (U.S). The days of $150 new SKS are long gone and won't be coming back. Paratrooper and D models are a bit more as well then traditional ones.

Thank you, I'm still trying/experimenting and to be quite honest, I'm not overall satisfied with my photo results.... I have quite a long ways to go to get better, who knows I might even go back to high end point and shoot as I'm not entirely happy with my DSLR.

Japan was a photographer's paradise, in terms of what's available. Unfortunately for me, there were always some sort of financial priorities that kept me from buying a decent digital SLR to replace my 35mm Canon EOS. I have made do with a basic snapshot type digital Canon, which is good for most basics, but doesn't really allow me to do much in terms of artistic work or making the most of beautiful scenery and colors. Sometimes, it was particularly frustrating to be in places with awesome scenery, and being limited on my photographing abilities, due to my camera.

I guess everything is relative, they are cheap here (compared to other rifles on the local market) and retail for between $400-$450 NZD which is about $270-300USD

but then again, a brand new AR-15 over here sells for about $5000-$6000NZD depending on what configuration it is in (and if you can even find one)

and AR parts are crazy expensive, a new flat top upper (again if you can find someone willing to sell one) will run you about $700-800 NZD without a BCG or charging handle

Second hand 30 round AR mags are about $100 each, P mags (if can find them) are about $200ish

AK mags are about $150-$180 each, again second hand and most of them are only cheap Chinese ones.

Ammo is even worse, we can't even get .308 here at the moment unless you want to buy expensive hunting ammo, and *cheap* .223 milsurp is about .65-75c a round

7.62x39 is about the only thing that is actually cheap and will run you around $500-600 for a 1500 round case.

Anyone that wants to send me some stuff would be greatly appreciated (and paid)

I managed to pick up a brand new AK the other day for $1400 but with a crappy thumb hole stock
Have still got to find the money to pay for it before i can actually get it, but hey, its only money and i get paid every week so it shouldn't be too long hopefully

    $300 sounds reasonable.

I'm thinking about trying to get my dad to part with his. he never shoots it, and it just sits in his safe.

I know what you're going through, BJ.
I was a college student when i sold my Chicom SKS. Seemed like I was always broke. I lost a shotgun once, by pawning it in order to keep the lights on and phone connected.

Damn, that really sucks, Pumpkin. Why such rediculous prices? Import restrictions?

In the long run, you'll be glad you did it.

    Just don't pick a non-marketable major, like I did.

My degree is in International Studies and Political Science. Good for being a government bureaucrat. I've got an application in with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. Wish me luck!
