I suppose it boils down to actual platforms and user preference. Co-witnessing is very easy with AR so why not do it. On the other platforms it may not be so, so then maybe not especially if the user doesn't feel the need to.

In an experiment, I removed the original rear sight and the GLFS and installed GG&G BUIS on the top rail.
The sight radius is only 12", but it works like a charm and it does co-witness with the EOTech. Works for me ~
I am not sure, I never weight it. but it has some heft to it.

If you compare to the H2O's chassis, you can tell this is the latest new and improved version of the EBR, more metal has been machined off in some of the less critical area to further reduce weight.
