Yeah, but so are Glocks, AKs, and a lot of other weapons that perform well.
The K31 is butt ugly. there, i said it...

FALs and Garands, of course, are beautiful and functional. Enfields and Thompsons too.
... ... and that coming from a guy who allows himself to be filmed with an AK and an AR15 - you are a sad excuse for a gun owner BJ, go hang your head in shame.
A K31 is a masterpiece in steel and walnut/beech, not a mutated piece of pressed scrap metal and firewood/plastic. You are badly in need of further education young man, on your own admission you've never even seen what you're criticising - shame on you.

Yeah, the stock on the one I bought was roughed up a little more and nicked a bit like yours, but the action and rifling and bore were clean as a whistle and looked brand new, but all of the numbers matched. I think there's a forum called SwissRifles that focuses a lot on 1911/K31 and I think they may have a breakdown of serial#s.
DW58: This is my first rifle, was planning on a Henry AR-7, and I've always been fascinated by the K31. Lo and behold, there were two at the local gun show; I picked the cheaper one with more cosmetic wear, but better rifling/action/etc. I figured they would be rare as hell and outrageous prices; they are, unless you go for the lower end of the spectrum. Does MPN ever do a meet 'n' shoot with members? Great way to see everyone's setups on the range besides pic and youtube clips.
Hollis: This thread makes it hurt living in kalifornia; Hole's collection is about 100x worse. Hahaha.
BravoJuliet: The K31 isn't a looker, especially mine.
Hole is simply paranoid about the Pope coming to get him. Therefore he is armed.
You've made a good choice, especially for a first rifle. The K31 is possibly the most accurate standard issue military rifle ever made. It's odd how the Swiss didn't look after the woodwork on their rifles, yet the metalwork is always superb. The forum you mention is a superb source of information and expertise.
Speaking as the father of a shooting-mad 17 year old, I'd be a lot happier to see him with a former military bolt-action rifle such as a K31 which he can learn to shoot really well, than something like an AK or an AR-15-clone.
Who just called AKs and glocks ugly? I will fight you! Haha
I redact my earlier statement about the K31 being ugly, and apologize to the swiss people in all their neutralness.
