It's an extremely high functioning military rifle that is butt ugly. It's a slapper that gives amazing head.
    I reverse my retraction.

A 60+ year old military bore doesn't get much prettier than this.

    Looks like mine!!

Also, I like the lines of the K31, but she's not the prettiest by far. However, she's damn effective, and that's what matters.

Too many K31 haters in here. It's beautiful and shoots like a dream.

Speaking as the father of a shooting-mad 17 year old, I'd be a lot happier to see him with a former military bolt-action rifle such as a K31 which he can learn to shoot really well, than something like an AK or an AR-15-clone.
as much as I love my ARs and AKs, I agree with you. I' like to get a couple of K31s, one for me and the other to give to my son when he's a teenager.

The weak-spot is around the pistol grip, but I think the plusses outweigh the minuses. For me the accuracy and engineering quality are paramount - there is simply no other WW2-era or earlier bolt action military rifle which offers </=1MOA accuracy with issue ammunition with no modification. The K31 was designed with a free floating barrel, that's pretty unique as well. I fully admit it's not the best looking military bolt action out there, but it's certainly not ugly.

I know you Septics can't see the wood for the trees when it comes to your 1903s and Garands, but the K31 will outshoot either rifle to hell and back, and our Enfields for that matter. Don't get me wrong, I love the No.4 Mk.1 Enfield (not the No.4 Mk.1*), but I'd rather have a K31 - you can keep your ugly 1903s and Garands.

At the end of the day it's all down to personal preference thank goodness or we'd all be shooting really ugly rifles like the AK or AR-15 - Yuk!

My final word on the matter
I gotta disagree with you there, DW.

And you've given your final word, so no rebuttals.

I already have way too many rifles. In fact one might say my behaviour is addictive. But what the hell. Right now I feel a serious temptation to get a K31. And when it comes to temptations, Oscar Wilde put it best.
    He.

I'm speaking as an artist, everyone in here is probably a better shooter than I am. There's a reason I build tiger stripe maple longrifles, the beauty of them. I take offense that you lump all of us Septics together as a single bad taste having entity. The 1903 is a nice looking military rifle, the Garand is like a fat girl that has really pretty eyes. In the right situation? F*cking beautiful. I'm not talking about accuracy, or battle worthiness, I'm talking about the lines of the gun itself. Pleasing to the eye. The K31 is a f*cking club. My opinion is not colored by ethnocentrism, nor jingoism. A beechwood 2x4 with some precision Swiss clockwork on it does not constitute beauty to me.....

    Mine's a walnut 2x4.

    Just thought I'd mention that.

    He.
Believe me, I know what you mean. Recently, both my wife and my mother have asked me how many firearms I own, I won't tell them (the number is 51, plus four that are either ready to assemble or just lacking one or two parts), so I just responded with "I don't know".

Of course my kids, especially my son, think the gun collection is the coolest thing in the world. After watching The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly today, my son couldn't wait to hold my single action Uberti and lever action Winchester and Rossi.

I might have to risk a divorce (if Mrs. Samurai finds out) and get one of those K31s......

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy one. In fact, I'd like one. But I just don't think they're purty. That's all.

    Haha!

While I would agree that the K31 is not as purdy as my hot blonde Swedish Mausers........I prefer the K31.

And I LOVE my Swedes...purdy to look at and shoot.......but the stock is wrong....way too straight....makes my wrist uncomfortable after a while....it's a bit like a really hot chick who's a bit high maintenance....there's a bit of substance lacking under the beautiful looking surface.

I think of the K31 like that Bauhaus form follows function thingie, and it can function.......and the straight pull cocking handle looks like a cute little beer keg and usually makes me thirsty for a good beer after shootin'.

So personally, using the female analogy...I think of the K31 as a girl with a body built for sin, a "butter face", and daddy issues....pretty much the almost perfect combination.
