We are trying to figure out how much this is worth.
It was made sometime in the late 1800's
its .32 cal, its a poker type gun.(fits in your hand)
its serial number is only 4 digits
the owners father was gona just sell it for $150 but after my friend did a little research they can go for as much as $3k
So how would I find out how much this is worth?

You need to be a little more descriptive and you also need a better photographer..

    Make: S&W ??
    Model: 1 1/2 ??
position of serial Serial #: 123x
barrel marking exactly as marked, if it say N.Y. or NY or New York
    Grip Markings & material
Is there provenance?? Did grandpa buy it new or was it passed from ??someone?? to someone else??
Are there papers/photos/holster/ammo that go with the pistols..

You need to find a reputable antique firearms dealer to give a written appraisal,, "for insurance purposes" ..

Now if it says "black cat" or H&R or Sears we are talking low $$, even some of the S&W revolvers are modest 200-300 USD..

I'm not a collector,, I have several of my grand parents & aunts & uncles pocket carries. They were in the manufacturing, bottling, & distribution of medicinal products back in the early part of the last century. Because of unscrupulous competitors, they found it beneficial to arm themselves. Anyway,, some of the pistols ended up in my possession. Out of the 5 I have,, four total maybe 300 USD in value,, One is a S&W Model 1 1/2, nickle plated, .32 S&W, brake-top and is worth a bit more..

Here is a link to what you may have:

    Good luck..

thanks for the information, I will pass all of this on to my friend. I will also try and get better photographs of the gun. The gun was passed down one generation then passed to a family friend. All that he has left, is the gun and that little pouch behind the gun.

    How lucky you are.

Hardly any of the gun dealers in my area ever have Walthers. People around here seem to like Glocks and Berettas more than Walthers. All to each his own, I guess.
