I saw an FNC in a local gunstore for $1800 today. I seriously considered pulling out my credit card, then remembered that I have a family and not much financial stability right now.

Just did my PAL course yesterday, and I'm doing my Restricted PAL next week. So I hope to add to this illustrious thread soon.

Any suggestions on a good first handgun for a newbie, that isn't super expensive?

Glock 22 (full size .40) or Glock 19 (compact 9mm).

Or better yet, go to your local gunstore and get a feel for different models. Everyone's hands are a little different, and what may be perfect for me might not be quite right for you. Some shooters prefer Sig/Sauers, H&Ks, 1911A1 variants, Springfield XDs, Smith & Wessons, or Berettas. Some even prefer a revolver.

Or, if you have friends with pistols, try out theirs, and choose what you like best.

Thanks for the advice. I was drooling over a Glock 22 at the local gunstore on Friday, actually.

I carry one at work, and it's a great pistol.

I love 1911s (I have three), but I'm not sure if it's what I'd choose if I could have just one, all-around pistol.

Perhaps it would be a toss-up between the 1911 and the Glock.
If it were to be something to carry regularly, I think I'd opt for the Glock. For casual shooting once or twice a month, maybe the 1911.

I hate you Glock whores the most! Since Glocks here cost more than $1000 USD I have to settle for a 1911 .45 cal

Military and Law Enforcement over here even get $100 off the already low price of Glocks.

Sorry, but my mom already does the job of adding salt to my wounds by sending me a pricelist of the guns for sale in Oklahoma monthly or by talking about the gun sale on the Gun store close to where she lives, in the hopes to get my ass off this island and back to the US. But thanks!

You only hurt me cause you care, I know.

A group fo Islands across the Pacific. Well I was talking about the cheaper 1911's the expensive ones cost about the same as new Glocks. The $1000 ones are effing used Glocks. There was once a time where Glocks were sold cheap and plenty in this promised land. But the natives got greedy and the supplier even greedier. And so one day the natives had a great idea... why not sell it to the people in need in the land of the rising sun. They did this knowing that this would really displease the gods! Since forbiden fruit tastes oh so much better, profit wise, they continued in their plan. When the Glocks were becoming rampant in the land of samurais their serial number point only to one origin... so with the gods displeasure he declared "Let these natives have no more of this new magical Glocks... forever."

Till now the islands have been forsaken and Glocks are scarse...

Some say they will come back once a hero setsup shop and pass the God's clearance, but until then we live in a land of no new Glocks.

    AKA "Philippines"

Sounds like there might be a few Yakuza who are Glock fans!
