You should have seen some of the Canadian females in Khandahar (I mean the good looking ones) they either dressed...well you know what I mean. And the higher ups are warning us about harassment policies and crap.Wearing bling-bling during service... tzzzzzz

Yes, the firing range there is also used by NATO allies and not exclusively by the Hellenic Military.
Nice report on ARD (public channel 1 in Germany) about German Bundeswehr soldiers returning from Afghanistan with post-traumatic stress disorder. Now imagine what kind of stress they'd have if they actually did some FIGHTING...
Not speaking of KSK... who knows what they are up to...
I've seen half of it. IIRC the one had traumatic experiences of a mine clearing accident. Also some were affected aftermath of IED. For a person it doesn't really matter how this trauma happened. Some put it away, some not. Fighting is another stress level of course, no doubt, but Traumas are single events and they can happen without fighting. So i think combat stress is not the same as a single event trauma, but both can lead to equally bad symptoms. Someone could correct me if i'm wrong.
I don't think the symptoms are worse, comparing the events. It is rather depending on the person.
Yeah there is no reason to b*tch at those who have "acquired" PTSS over there, it could happen to the best soldiers..
Let's just hope that Defence will take good care of them by the means of psychological help so they recover, that could prevent some incidents like the U.S. has had, with Marines shooting civilians at a gas-station in order to get "suicide-by-cop".
Those with PTSS don't deserve to be disrespected, they deserve proper care. So keep your "it would have been worse if they had actually fought" comments in your mouth. You wouldn't be too happy if you have seen your best friend lose his arm or leg, because of an IED, either.
Not disrespecting the soldiers with PTSS... seeing blown up kids or watching somebody die pushes all the wrong buttons in the human psyche... was just wishing that German politics would allow a wider use of the Bundeswehr in overseas missions.
Really wonder if the Bundeswehr has the heart for it after seeing some of the interviews, especially the officers.
Also found the tone of the report a bit kid-gloved. I follow the German press closely and every time there is the suggestion of increased danger in Afghanistan (or God forbid a mission which might involve shooting) the calls for the troops to come home multiply at all political levels.
I know it is the WWII legacy, but it does get old.
Germany is new to oversea deployments so let the people get used to it.
PTSS is new to the Germans, not so to the Americans. Let things settle a bit and everything will be fine.
