German ISAF soldiers are seen as they patrol the outskirts of Feyzabad, east of Kunduz, Afghanistan, Friday, Sept. 18, 2009.
In a fashion sense, Flecktarn should be the only acceptable combination with a Kufiya. At least when worn by Europeans.![]()
Nice to see that ZDV 37/10 seems to have been thrown out of the window in AStan
Re beards, how's the official policy? It seems that some units have them, others are totally clean shaven.
The AP photographs are powerful. Strangely enough, I haven't seen them in the german media at all. You could assume Stern would have them, or something like that.
Maybe they're too close to the realities of war for our media.
Official policy as in "ordinary military service" is: If youīve already got a beard itīs fine - you take care of it and make sure that it looks decently and not Wolfgang Thierse Style.
But you canīt just start to grow one while your on a Biwak for example. If you start out cleanly shaven, you will continue to shave it every morning as part of your hygiene routine.
Thatīs the way I know it - but I have not been on deployment or something. Guess it is more relaxed when youīre in theatre.
Consider what type of culture you've to face in Afghanistan. Men with beards will be more accepted by traditional Muslims.
holy crap man, why would you try to impress an afghani women? thats sick!
Germans look very Afghan with a full grown beard. He is also not kidding. In Afghanistan only children and women do not have beard.
Any more images with Germans and full grown beard.
