Any pics of the Turkish invasion of Iraqi Kurdistan in 94/95? I remember seeing pics of M60A3s in the newspaper back then.
What is Turkey's newest tank? Do they have the Leopard 2?
The Army units are below...(transferred to bottom line with more detailed amounts)
The Turkish Army is composed of four army headquarters, comprising nine corps, two mechanised infantry divisions and one infantry division. These divisions are responsible for approximately 14 mechanised infantry brigades, 14 armoured brigades, 12 infantry brigades and five commando brigades. There is also a division responsible for Army training.
Turkey has around 30,000 troops based in the "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" (northern half of the island). The Army has deployed in northern Cyprus two mechanised infantry brigades, 440 MBTs, 600 AIFVs/APCs and over 200 artillery pieces. Apart from directly assigning forces to NATO, Turkish troops are also available for the South-Eastern European Brigade (SEEBRIG) of the Multinational Peace Force South-Eastern Europe (MPFSEE).
The Turkish Army is equipped with about 2,900 MBTs, 3,600 AIFVs/APCs, 900 artillery pieces and 410 aircraft.
The Turkish Air Force is responsible for two military regions covering western and eastern Turkey. It is composed of two tactical air forces (1st and 2nd), a tanker base command (10th), two air transportation base commands (11th and 12th), an air training command and an air logistics command. The tactical air forces are responsible for up to four wings (or "Jet Bases"), each comprising two to five squadrons. Ten tactical air force squadrons are equipped with the F-16 Fighting Falcon and eight with the F-4 Phantom. There are four air transportation base command squadrons equipped with transport aircraft.
The Turkish Air Force operates about 766 aircraft, including 726 fixed-wing aircraft and 40 helicopters.
The Turkish Navy is responsible for four territorial areas, covering north and south Turkey, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. The Navys main bases are at Ankara (headquarters), Aksaz Bay, Eregli, Gölcük, Iskenderun, Istanbul and Mersin.
The Turkish Navy is equipped with about 170 vessels, including 16 submarines and 27 frigates. The Navys air arm, the Türk Donma Havaciligi (Naval Aviation) is composed of three squadrons and is equipped with around 25 aircraft. The Navy also has a 3,100-strong Marines brigade.
Apart from contributing to NATO, the Turkish Navy is also available for the Black Sea Naval Co-operation Task Group (BLACKSEAFOR), which was created in early 2004 by Turkey, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russia and Ukraine for search and rescue and other humanitarian operations in the Black Sea.
As I remember Turks are 2nd military force in NATO after States. Strong war machine capable of working in all kind of conditions and terrains. During cold war they had their role as a country with direct borders with Soviets.
USA is suppoting Turkey in every way due to the strategic position. Turkey is protecting Europe against Middle east and Islam.
Army has strong influence upon politics and politics are astrongly feared by Army generals. As I understood Army is stronghold of Kemal Ataturk policy of keeping religion out of political life.
If Turkey gets into EU it will be good for everyone. If they dont, there will be trouble.

Most managers are too narrowly focused on the economic activity of producing goods and services. They forget that their organization's true nature is that of a work community of humans rather than a collection of assets on a balance sheet. The only sustainable competitive advantage is learning faster than the competition.
