Nice collection...
Decided to post some pics of my beltkit which was used during my time in the ACF. The absence of ammo pouches is due to removal when it was used for hikes after I left the institution. Dont attempt to guess what type it is though, it's a great fruit pudding from 58' 94' and even a 95' top cover of a bergan (ruck beyond repair). The knife is in the wrong place, normally it would be further back but I also use it for cooking.
All questions are welcome.
the survival kit:
contents
Fire
15 paper matches
12 weatherproof matches
striker
square candle
8 barbeque pink fire starter papers
flint and steel (sharpened)
big magnetic magnifying glass (compared to the Victorinox magnifying glass I was very impressed with its result)
plastic spoon (makes life a lot easier and makes a good fire starter. Made the end serrated so a flame can easy catch on it)
Food and water
14 puritabs
Fishing kit including 4 weights, 4 medium hooks, 4 small hooks and fishing wire (not knotted)(fishing kit is standard from BCB)
2 condoms 1 is un-lubricated the other is in Chinese so I don’t know if that one is lubricated
Brew kit – 2 ration tea bags
wire
large sheet of aluminium foil (use as container to boil water)
First aid
There are no items in this kit which are directly designed for life preservation.
Signalling
Inside of lid acts as signal mirror (can’t find a proper signal mirror here, might take it out of my Victorinox survival pouch)
standard BCB whistle (not too happy with it but have no knowledge of what to replace it with)
the aluminium sheet used to reflect the sun (I realise it’s not a lot to go on but in the book “SOS” the guys got saved by their red dry bag)
Navigation
Silva button compass (luminous)
The magnetic needles and safety pins can also act as a compass
Other
small lock knife
scalpel
BCB instructions (want to replace it with the “morale” paper I saw here on the forum so IF YOU WROTE THAT PAPER OR KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND IT COULD YOU PM IT TO ME?)
BCB accident evacuation report (should I keep this? Seems pretty crap to me)
pencil
wire saw (key rings taken off, not greased)
1 large, 4 medium and 2 small safety pins (all magnetic)
sewing kit with several threads, 2 buttons, 1 large sized needle, 1 medium sized needle (magnetic, north side coloured red)
cotton wool
5.25m of Para cord wrapped around the tin.
Waterproof tape also wrapped around the tin to ensure dryness
EDIT
THE KIT LIST THAT WAS MENTIONED ABOVE IS OUTDATED
The extra items carried:
Wire wool (electric spark tinder)
Two tea bags
Magnesium permanganate crystals
the Knife
The knife was purchased in Holland, I have no knowledge if avaliable here (GB) nor of its name (if it has a proper name) I did discover the name of the company and where it is stationed - "Linder Messer" Germany.
It's a fixed blade, blade alone being about 6" and has a full tang.
On the tang it got plastic plates with the tang running visible through the middle. The black plates cover about 3/4 of the handle the rest is metal. hundreds of diamond shapes are cut into the plastic plates for extra grip. It got two rivets to hold the plates on the tang. On one side of the handle it has a green emblem (diamond shaped) with (I think) the French sign of brotherhood.
There is a handguard on the lower side, shaped as a water drop. Just above the guard there is a ring wich stops the knife making a noise as it slides in the sheath. Above the ring the name of the company and origin is written.
There is only a small swag, about 1" and the point of the blade is above the centre line of the knife. As far as I know the blade is made from stainless steel. No part of the blade is serated.
It is exactly the same model as the the Hitler Youth was given only instead of the French brotherhood emblem it had the swastica. Also on the blade was written (in german) Blood and Honour
I made a sheath out of an old belt wrapped around around the knife and then taped it. It works fine.

Nice collection...

Old 58' waterbottle pouches. Cut of the sleeves of DPM waterproofs ( i had at least 3 sets issued) and sewed it on. Also on the left (out of sight) have another diff low hanging wide 58' pouch.
Thanks for the BHI recommendation but I like my sheath as its home made (next one will be made out of bark) and accomodates my swedish fire steel and honing stone.
that's an interesting post...a really useful belt...!!!!!!!!!![]()

Army cadets eh :P .
A little contribution to the topic from your resident Air Cadet:
I don't usually have all those bits and bobs attached like that, we were doing an Urban exercise.
Fee,
I was in the Welsh Guards (uurh leak as capbadge! Must be welsh for that eh!) and then in the light infantry. Greathad great time there, out of going four weekends in one month I was on the range during three of them.
Shadowneo,
like the kit but the way your mouth tube is aatached still means that you have to use a hand for drinking. How about ataching it to the D loops on your shoulder? Or just attached for the pic?
Ryan
I usually run it through the D rings over one of the shoulders (I don't usually have the inova or anything attached up there).
Cool, well when i joined up after 3 weeks i was on the range, my first ever weekend. It was in altcar, just sat on the grass for an hour learning how to fix jams, load magazines quickly and aim accuratly. Then i was on the range with 2 magazines. Then heavens opened and started to piss down, nice little setting for my first firing session, Great weekend.Originally Posted by ryan woods

I am hopefully going to RAF Regiment camp mid-march down at Honnington, (compressed version of PGAC), and I'll be trained on the L85/L86 there, which I can't wait for.
Ah, I remember the days when I thought the L85 was cool....![]()
Urban exercise in the ATC?? I don't recall doing any FIBUA-type stuff when I was in. What sort of stuff did you get up to?
BTW, if you're right handed it's better not to put anything on your right shoulder. It interferes with the butt sitting in the correct position.![]()
@ryan
Interesting kit mate! I wish I had a digital camera, I'd post some pics of my kit and its contents. A tip for the comms cord mate, use a fishing reel and thinner cord. That way it is easier to use and you can easily wind it all back in quickly. Thinner cord means you can keep more on. (make sure you take the rachet out first!)
For the FFD, I always carry a crepe bandage with it and a safety pin. When/if you come to use it, rip off the attached straps (which are ****e) and pin the end of the crepe to the back of the pad (making sure the crepe is the right way up to roll off easily) and wrap around the limb and pad. Crepe is miles easier to use and applies much more pressure than the crappy straps that come with the FFD. It could be the difference between getting control of a major bleed or not.
Just a tip. Good post!

It wasn't FIBUA per se, we didn't have weapons, it was more of an Urban Command and Control exercise. We were using a fenced off compound as an "Embassy", and had to facilitate crowd control, vehicle checks, searching of incoming/outgoing personnell. There were several incidents during the evening, including people breaking into the compound, bomb scares, and a fire evacuation. It was all good stuff.
I don't usually have anything attached to the shoulders on my vest,or anything clipped on externally, the reason I don't usually wear the top two detachable pouches is because they would interfere with the use of a rifle.
