Tampons can be used to pack a wound or as kindling but with the dressings now available and the current normal CasEvac times there's no point in taking them other than in survival kits (IMHO).

Thats what i thought, isnt it SOP to have a FFD taped to your shoulder, in your special smock pocket / somewhere else on your belt kit?

I wouldnt suggest putting a tampon in a PSK, this demands space, instead use loose cotton wool to fill up the gaps. You only use space wasted and stops it from rattling...

... another great tip from ryan

drop a tampon into a pint of guiness - Dont know why I know this!

After a while it will fill the glass and continue to look like a pint of guiness.

Moral of the story (If that story is moral) you get an awful lot of cotton wool in them things.

What is going in the waist pouches?

I am jsut wondering as I find in civi hillwalking that their isnt much stuff I need close at ahnd for easy access that I dont incorporate into dropping my sack and sitting on it.

    very good!!

I do carry a lot of gear on person, equipment (see list previsou pages) I want when my rucksack is not there or just easy access because it is used all the time. But in my humble opinion I rather have the pouches on my belt than on the rucksack, even though it makes it more awkward to carry.. I suppose thats why I dont use pouches at all, but pockets instead.

Nevermind, it looks great mate and horses for courses!! Come the day of the race you're going to use what works for you...

torch, heliograph, FA gloves, waterbottle/thermo (as mentioned), more snacks ( i could snack all day when hiking!) bino's, warm hat, hypo blanket, plant/bird IDing books, matt to save a wet ass, etc

if you get out you'll know, like weasel said, that items like these are good to have on hand!
