World Cup 2006: A Look Ahead
For all foreigners who complain about how the World Series doesn't involve the world (it is an internationally competition by the way), there will be an actual world competition in March 2006. The competition aim at including 16 countries and this will not be an exhibition atmosphere type of play. Players will go all out and Major League Baseball will release all their professional players so they may play for their respected countries.
Depending on how well the World Cup will be, MLB will began to build a European MLB. Teams are speculated to be based in the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and France. Unlike the the NFL in Europe, these teams will consist of actual European players.
Hopefully, the U.S. will field its best and the best players actually want to play. We certainly do not want to see what happen to the U.S. basketball team in the Olympics to happen to the U.S. baseball team.
Countries participating, some are for sure, others are speculative:
USA
Canada
Mexico
Dominican Republic
Puerto Rico
Japan
South Korea
Taiwan
Cuba (Most likely compose of defected Cuban baseball players and Cuba-American players)
Australia
Venezuela
Panama
Netherlands (Most analysts consider them to be the strongest baseball country in Europe)
Italy
