How exactly does photoshop work? I saw that picture of the Aussie SF a while ago...the real photo...how do you convert it to the cartoon-ish format and then color it yourself? Is this all done in photoshop? I've been into military art for a while and just sketch a lot of stuff and am very interested in some of this photoshop work. Thanks.

You just re-draw it, you can do lots with photoshop

no mate, i drawn this, i used that image you speak of as a guide... then scanned it, then used photoshop to ink it and colour it...

ive been working on this for a bit, its a work in process, i only edited the smudge marks on my comp, i didnt notice them till i scanned it.
dont critisize yet, im not done, notice how they dont have boots yet and its not all detailed. when im done it (mabey a week) ill post it. hope you like it

Yep. You are very observant, that G.I. was drawn using a photo in RAIDS as graphic reference (just like that pic of Captain Rinville above). RAIDS is an awesome source of material for a military cartoonist.
