New personal weapon for the portuguese armed forces

Portugal is going to replace the old G3 for a new weapon: we expect that is the G36. But these are the candidates. Who do you think it should win? Vote in your favourite.

Personally I would go for the G36.

Tough call between G36 and F2000... but i'm picking G36 because of the amount of European users.

The problem is there is no Brasilian assault rifle on the real Portugalese list, but - among others above - Swiss SG550 and Singaporean SAR-21. Also Steyr Mannlicher proposal is not Steyr AUG A1 but A3.

The most likely choice is the German 5.56mm G36 assault rifle and 5.56mm MG4 machinegun, because RESCOM, DAE and GNR (Guarda Nacional Republicana) uses G36 already (in Iraq).

Yes, but then again - paratroopers use the Galil and Styer, the marines use sometimes the M4, the Polícia Judiciária (portuguese FBI) ordered a bunch of Tavors recently.

Still the G36 is likely to win.

Steyr AUG or some Steyr submachineguns?

Do you have any photos of them?

Mhm, especially that Portugal previously uses German weapons - G3 and MG3.

    Styer AUG

No. It was just a news I read in the paper. Apparently when the Tavors were delivered an IMI technician also came to show the IMI Barak 9mm.

I'm suprised a polish bloke like you knows about RESCOM - its not well-known around here. Not because its secret, its just not everyone knows about it.
