bloddyaxe - thanks for the info, looks like the russians are well on their way to having a good carrier capability

Its true that aircraft cannot cannot carry as much weight when using the ski jump, but that's to be expected. A poor mans carrier it might be, but it would also cost a fraction of the amount a Nimitz or such like would.

Does anyone know how many crew is required for the russian carriers ?
maybe all that money they saved can go towards cleaning up the rest of their rusting navy so the west doesnt have KEEP to footing the bill

    The Pics are truly awesome!

But the Kuznetsov airwing why fly always without weaponry? In all pictures both the Su-27K's and Su-25UTG's are "naked", not even a pair of R-73...

They are just practicing. WHen they do a live fire excercise, then they carry weapons. Is there going to be a surprise attack or something?

The problem is: they only have weapons on live fire excercise? In all other carriers (from USA, French, England, Italy, Brasil, etc.) on a everyday flight the planes are carrying some A2A weapons (and mostly droptanks too).
And even if they only practicing, why not load training makets, simulating the weight and drag for the real weapons?

As i see, this is a Kamov Ka-27PLO type ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) helicopter. Heinzi are almost right, the Ka-28 is the export version of Ka-27.

Damm Russians with their export versions
    You have to remember:
    -designation
    -NATO name
    -export versions
    -russian nickname
    can be complicated sometimes

I really like the concept of the two main rotors. Gives a lot of vertical speed I think
Great avatar btw, would love to see the original picture.

Well, sorry to say that, but the Su-32FN cannot land on Kuznetsov, because it's not an carrier-base plane. As you can see in the picture, the Su-32FN has lack of landing arrest hook, and wont have folding wings (and another carrier-plane specialities). I think this is only a touch&go (but i questioning even this, because the plane are flying too high), not landing.
The Su-27IB has the capabilities to landing on the Kuznetson, but nor the Su-32FN, nor the Su-34.
