I have never seen a NJ State Trooper with a SIG P228.
I thought that too, the last NJ Trooper's I worked with all carried H&K P7M8, but that was about 5-6 yrs ago...Originally Posted by One_A
I *think* the WVSP carries a .40 S&W.
Berettas in Florida??! How recent is this info? I know the police here use Glocks. I'm just not sure which model..........
There are a lot of FL agencies that issue Glocks (Miami PD, Jacksonville SO to name two) but FL Highway Patrol issues the Beretta, which is what the list was trying to show: What state police agencies are carrying.

We (The New Jersey State Police) currently carry the Sig 228 in 9mm. While at the academy ('00-01) our agency was transitioning to a new service weapon to replace the H&K P7M8. I was trained on and upon graduation, was issued the P7M8 and the Smith & Wesson SW99. Because of a high number of malfunctions with the SW99, we eventually turned in both the H&K and Smith for the P228.
@ TubaTrooper: Thanks for that update. Welcome. Stay safe.
Where can I get me one of them new fangled 339's?!??!?!!?!? I'll throw my 226 out, it must be obsolete if they're making 3xx series now!Originally Posted by FOX 1

Not that much Officers carry Glock 17s in New York. Tell you the truth, I haven't seen an officer with one yet.
All Troopers in the NY State Police have been issued Glock 17's since 1990, and we will have them forever. The wonderful and benevolent Mario Cuomo signed an executive order before leaving office stating that if we purchased new sidearms then we have to DESTROY our current issue. Consequently you can imagine that a 4500 person agency runs up against some considerable cash outlay for such a switch. The only good thing is now we have a Remington 870 (14 - inch bbl) in each car.
Is this true for the NJ troopers who patrol the freeways? Why a compact pistol?Originally Posted by TubaTrooper
I'm not sure if I'd consider the 228 a compact weapon. It's my understanding that the P226 is the full size version and the P239 is advertised as the compact/concealable version. The P228 is somewhere in between, but closer to the P226. However, to answer your question more specifically, yes every Trooper is issued the P228 as their primary sidearm. And it's killed almost (with the exception of one) everyone we've shot lately.
PS (they were all bad people...)
